Flight delays, cancellations and schedule changes
Disruptions
If your flight is disrupted for any of the following reasons:
- Cancelled flights with no available alternative within 24 hours
- The departure is moved earlier by 3+ hours (domestic) or 6+ hours (international)
- The arrival is delayed by 3+ hours (domestic) or 6+ hours (international)
- The flight is changed to a different departure or arrival airport
- Additional connections are added to the itinerary
- The customer is moved from Mint to core
- A schedule change results in a misconnect or does not meet minimum connect times
We will keep you on your existing flight (if delayed) or automatically rebook you onto a new flight (if canceled). If you’re satisfied with your flight, no further action is needed.
If you’re not satisfied, you are eligible to:
- Rebook on an alternate flight within 5 days at no additional cost or
- Cancel and refund to the original form of payment, including ancillary fees (seats, pets, bags, etc.). To be eligible for a refund, the customer must cancel online or contact us prior to flight departure.

Flights Cancelled by JetBlue
If your flight is cancelled by JetBlue for any reason and you had a confirmed reservation at the time of cancellation, the following options are available:
- Rebook on the next available JetBlue flight at no additional charge
- Receive a refund to the original form of payment.
Additionally, flights cancelled within 4 hours of scheduled departure are eligible for compensation under our Customer Bill of Rights.
Heads up: Beginning in early 2026, Customer Bill of Rights compensation will be issued as TrueBlue points instead of a JetBlue travel credit. To receive points, customers must have a TrueBlue account attached to their reservation prior to departure.
I already cancelled my flight before the fee waiver was issued
If you voluntarily changed or cancelled your flight before a fee waiver was issued and the flight was still scheduled to operate, the original fare rules will apply. All fees and fare differences will apply.
If you chose to change your flight due to a JetBlue delay, you voluntarily give up compensation for the flight disruption, as JetBlue put you on another available flight.
- For example, if your flight was delayed for 3 hours and you choose to take an earlier flight that day, you will no longer qualify for compensation for the original flight.
- To qualify for compensation, you must have had a confirmed reservation on the flight that was impacted at the time when the delay or cancellation was issued.
- Only customers who have checked in for the JetBlue-operated flight and are listed on the flight at the time of departure or cancellation are eligible for compensation.
- If you were originally listed on the flight and waited during the delay, but voluntarily change your flight before your originally scheduled flight departs or is cancelled, you are no longer eligible for compensation.
If you are traveling to or from one of these areas, you may choose to rebook your flight into a nearby airport. Visit Manage Trips, or contact us if you need assistance.

Weather Disruptions
We will do our best to stick to our schedules, rain or shine. Weather can sometimes cause delays with your flight or with airports and in those situations, we have plans and options to help with your
Any weather-related alerts or fee waivers will be posted at the top of our website.
A fee waiver is a change/cancel fee exception issued during times of major disruption (like impactful weather).
In the event that a fee waiver has been issued, impacted customers may change or cancel their flight without a fee or increase in airfare using Manage Trips. If you need additional assistance, contact us.
- You won't be charged if you change or cancel your flight.
- Only applies to flights during a specified eligibility period.
- Check the travel alerts page for information about any existing fee waivers.
- For some international destinations, certain taxes are nonrefundable.
- Fare difference may apply in certain situations.
JetBlue does not waive fees based on impending storms unless a fee waiver has been issued, a flight delay of 3 hours or more for a domestic and 6 hours or more for an international or a flight cancellation has occurred.
Disrupted by weather?
If a fee waiver has been issued, log into Manage Trips to update your reservation. Manage Trips automatically incorporates the details of a fee waiver if your trip meets the criteria.
More details about weather disruptions.
- Customer safety is always our first priority
- For weather-related cancellations, we make every effort to cancel flights more than four hours before departure but depending on the circumstances, this is not always possible
- Weather anywhere along a flight's route can cause a delay or cancellation
- Different types of weather conditions may not be visible to the naked eye, such as wind and in-cloud thunderstorms
- Weather impacts all airlines differently depending on airport locations, hubs, and flight paths
- Weather in one city may cause flight disruptions for one airline but not another
- If a flight is cancelled it will not be reinstated
- Download the JetBlue mobile app to use the Where's my plane? feature to track your incoming plane.
- Use the flight tracker to track any JetBlue flight.
Air Traffic Control Delays
When there is bad weather in the forecast (which could be over a destination that you are traveling to or along the route) the FAA will evaluate whether it needs to issue an Air Traffic Control (ATC) program.
ATC programs come in different shapes and sizes. Some programs help reroute aircraft around the weather, other programs may increase the spacing between aircraft and some may prohibit aircraft from operating. When this happens, it slows everything down (or stops flights) and this is when you see flight delays and cancellations.
Sometimes the FAA issues ATC programs when they do not have enough Air Traffic Controllers to handle the volume of flights. These controllers work hard but sometimes they need to slow things down to safely manage the volume of aircraft in particular region or nationwide. Most ATC delays are not eligible for compensation.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) issues Air Traffic Control (ATC) programs.
An airline is a network of complex moving pieces and when one part of the network gets disrupted, it can have a cascading impact if the disruption goes on for too long.
For example, if there is a 3-hour ATC delay from JFK to Syracuse because of weather at JFK, that plane in JFK will be delayed. If the flight has the same plane and same crew, the return flight from Syracuse back to JFK will also be delayed. Customers at JFK who look out the window and see bad weather are probably fairly understanding. On the flip side, for customers in Syracuse where it may be sunny, it is hard to understand why the flight is delayed.
Once that plane is released to fly to Syracuse, we must ensure that the crew have enough time left to operate both legs of the flight.
If we do not believe they will have enough time to operate, we will replace the crew. Replacing a crew is far easier in larger cities where we have the reserve resources. If we determine that a crew has a good amount of time left to operate the flight, we will continue with them on that flight.
However, even if the crew have sufficient times, other unexpected things can happen such as more ATC route closures or a pop-up thunderstorm in Syracuse. These things could then create a cascade of challenges including the crew timing out and the flight cancelling. None of this is optimal and we do our best to use all available information at the time to set each flight up for success.
Most airlines can handle a certain number of ATC delays because we carry extra resources such as pilots and flight attendants.
Importantly, pilots and flight attendants are limited by law in the number of hours they can work (even if they are delayed on the ground and not inflight) so at some point they are simply not permitted to continue working. At JetBlue, we are constantly projecting out when the pilots and flight attendants might reach their hours limit so we can replace them.
If ATC programs are prolonged because, for example, the weather proves to be worse than forecast (pop-up thunderstorms in the summer are very challenging to forecast both timing and location) or the FAA is insufficiently staffed to handle the volume or complexity of a particular day, an airline's extra resources begin to run out and you start to see cancellations and cascading delays.
This summer, JetBlue is carrying nearly 20% more flight attendants and 50% more pilots in reserve than last summer (and 30% and 80% more, respectively compared to June 2019) and even with these significantly higher resources, lengthy ATC delays are proving a challenge to overcome.
We work closely with the FAA to plan each day. However, sometimes the unexpected can happen.Log into Manage Trips to update your reservation.
