Complimentary upgrades to BlueFirst™.
What are space-available upgrades?
Space-available upgrades are complimentary upgrades into BlueFirst—available to eligible TrueBlue members when a BlueFirst seat is available starting 60 minutes prior to departure. No points, cash or certificates required.¹
Eligible fares & flights
Space-available upgrades are available on Main, Main Flex, EvenMore® and EvenMore® Flex fares—including flights booked with TrueBlue points or Cash + Points. Main Base and EvenMore Base fares are not eligible.⁴
Upgrades apply only to JetBlue-operated flights that have BlueFirst. They’re not available on flights with Mint® or on partner airlines.
On a flight with Mint? Mint upgrades are available for purchase or by redeeming Premium Upgrade Certificates.⁵

Who’s eligible?
All Mosaic members (Mosaic 1 through Mosaic 4) are eligible. JetBlue Premier Cardmembers—including authorized users—are also eligible, with or without Mosaic status, when they use their JetBlue Premier Card to pay for the trip³. Your eligibility is based on your Mosaic level and Cardmember status at the time the upgrade list is generated for your flight.¹
How space-available upgrades work
- Book an eligible Main or EvenMore fare on a flight featuring BlueFirst.⁴
- Eligible members are added to the upgrade list automatically. Prefer your original seat? You can opt out at check-in.⁶
- If BlueFirst seats are available, upgrades begin 60 minutes before departure—in the order that members are listed on the upgrade list.⁶
- If you’re upgraded, we’ll send you a notification in the JetBlue app and an email. You’ll see your updated seat in BlueFirst in the JetBlue app.⁶
- Once you upgrade with a new seat assignment, you’re ready to enjoy the BlueFirst experience.
Understanding the upgrade list
Your priority on the upgrade list is determined first by your Mosaic level—or, if you don’t hold Mosaic status, your JetBlue Premier Cardmember status. Other factors that determine your spot on the upgrade list include how you paid for your flight, the fare you purchased, and the tiles you’ve earned this program year.⁷
Here are the basics of the upgrade list:
| Priority | Traveler Group |
|---|---|
| 1 | Mosaic 4 |
| 2 | Mosaic 3 |
| 3 | Mosaic 2 |
| 4 | Mosaic 1 |
| 5 | JetBlue Premier Cardmembers without Mosaic status³ |
Within each group, priority is further determined in this order:⁷
- Using a JetBlue Credit Card to pay for your trip
- Purchase of an EvenMore fare (excluding EvenMore Base)
- Tiles earned during the current program year
Traveling with a companion?
You and one companion on the same reservation are eligible for an upgrade to BlueFirst. For both you and your companion to receive an upgrade, there will need to be two open seats in BlueFirst when upgrades start to clear. The reservation is not eligible for space-available upgrades when it includes three or more travelers. To qualify, one or more travelers should be moved to another reservation.
If only one seat is available before boarding, it’s up to you to decide if you want to split from your travel companion. You can take the upgrade for yourself, give the upgrade to your companion, or choose to skip the upgrade and remain with your travel companion.²
FAQs
Getting on the upgrade list
No action is required. Eligible travelers are automatically added to the upgrade list when they check in for an eligible flight featuring BlueFirst.⁶
Eligible travelers will see their place on the upgrade list using the JetBlue app. Flight information displays at the gate will also show the upgrade list, at select airports. Both the JetBlue app and displays in the gate area will show when an eligible traveler has received an upgrade.
The number of BlueFirst seats available for space-available upgrades on each flight is determined by JetBlue. An open seat on the seat map doesn’t necessarily mean it’s available for an upgrade—it may be reserved for a customer who purchased BlueFirst, or held for operational needs.¹ Upgrades clear in the order in which travelers appear on the upgrade list beginning 60 minutes before departure. You must be checked in to your flight to upgrade.⁶
Not necessarily. Space-available upgrades depend on BlueFirst seat availability and are not guaranteed.¹
Seats that open after boarding begins may be offered at JetBlue’s discretion but cannot be guaranteed.⁶
Eligibility & companions
Yes, when you use your JetBlue Premier Card, including as an authorized user, to pay for your flight.³ Other JetBlue credit cards don’t make you eligible on their own, but they can increase your place on the upgrade list if you’re already eligible as a Mosaic member⁷. JetBlue Premier Cardmembers are not eligible to receive an upgrade on Main Base, EvenMore Base, and flights booked as part of JetBlue Vacations packages.⁴
Yes. Main, Main Flex, EvenMore and EvenMore Flex fares booked with TrueBlue points or Cash + Points are eligible. Main Base and EvenMore Base fares are not eligible.⁴
One companion on the same reservation, traveling on an eligible fare, may also receive a complimentary upgrade—if there are two seats available in the BlueFirst cabin. You’re upgraded together when two BlueFirst seats are available. Or, if only one seat is available, you can take the upgrade for yourself or give it to your travel companion. Keep in mind that companion upgrades require you to travel on the same flight.²
Reservations with three or more travelers are not eligible for space-available upgrades. To be eligible for an upgrade, the eligible member and one companion must be move to a separate reservation from the rest of their party before check-in.²
A reminder that, when a Mosaic member is split into a separate reservation from the rest of their party, those on the reservation without the Mosaic member will not be eligible to receive any of the Mosaic member’s perks.
No. United MileagePlus Premier status, and status with other partner programs, does not qualify a traveler for space-available upgrades.⁸

After you're upgraded
You’ll receive the BlueFirst seat and any onboard service offered on your flight. BlueFirst perks provided before departure—such as dedicated check-in and an increased baggage allowance—aren’t included, and the rules of your original fare still apply. TrueBlue points and tiles are earned on the fare you originally purchased.¹⁰
Not automatically. Upgrades are cleared one flight at a time. You remain eligible for a space-available upgrade on each subsequent flight, but any additional upgrade will depend on BlueFirst availability and your position on the upgrade list for that specific flight.⁹
Your upgrade applies only to the flight it cleared on. If you decide to change flights, the upgrade is forfeited, and your new flight has its own availability and upgrade list. Aircraft changes, cancellations or other operational changes may also result in a cleared upgrade being reversed.⁹
Terms & Conditions
-
Space-available upgrades are complimentary upgrades to BlueFirst™ on eligible JetBlue-operated flights, offered to eligible TrueBlue Mosaic members (Mosaic 1–4) and JetBlue Premier Cardmembers, including authorized users, when a BlueFirst seat is available on the day of travel. Upgrades are not guaranteed and are subject to BlueFirst seat availability and capacity controls, which may limit the number of seats available, as determined by JetBlue in its sole discretion. Mosaic level and JetBlue Premier Cardmember status are determined as of the time JetBlue generates the upgrade list for the applicable flight.
-
In addition to the eligible member, one (1) traveling companion on the same reservation, traveling on an eligible fare, may receive a complimentary upgrade when seats are available. Reservations with more than two (2) travelers are not considered; to be considered, the eligible member and one (1) companion must be placed on a separate reservation before check-in. The eligible member and companion are upgraded together only when two (2) BlueFirst seats are available; if only one (1) is available, the eligible member may be offered the upgrade alone or may elect to award it to their companion. A companion upgrade requires the eligible member to travel on the same flight.
-
JetBlue Premier Cardmembers without Mosaic status, including authorized users, are eligible only when they use their JetBlue Premier Card as the form of payment for the base fare of the itinerary. Authorized users are subject to the same eligibility requirements as primary Cardmembers.
-
Eligible fares are published Main, Main Flex, EvenMore® and EvenMore® Flex fares, including those booked with TrueBlue points or a combination of cash and points. Main Base and EvenMore® Base fares are not eligible, regardless of Mosaic level or JetBlue Premier Cardmember status. Group bookings, charter flights, industry or reduced-rate travel, unpublished fares, free or reduced-rate promotional travel, and non-revenue travel are also not eligible. The air portion of a JetBlue Vacations® package booked on an otherwise eligible fare is eligible for Mosaic members only.
-
Space-available upgrades are available only on JetBlue-operated flights on aircraft configured with BlueFirst. They are not available on flights operated with Mint®, on JetBlue-marketed flights operated by a partner airline, or on flights operated by other carriers.
-
Eligible members are added to the upgrade list automatically at check-in. Upgrades begin to clear, in upgrade list order, beginning sixty (60) minutes before departure. Timing is subject to change and is not guaranteed. Seats that open after boarding begins may be offered at JetBlue’s discretion, and members who are not present when an upgrade is offered may be passed over. An upgrade is confirmed only when a BlueFirst seat assignment and updated boarding pass have been issued.
-
The upgrade list is ranked Mosaic 4, Mosaic 3, Mosaic 2, Mosaic 1, then JetBlue Premier Cardmembers without Mosaic status. Within each group, priority is based on, in order: (a) use of any JetBlue Credit Card, including an authorized user’s card, to pay for the base fare of the itinerary, (b) purchase of an EvenMore® fare, and (c) tiles earned in the current program year. JetBlue Premier Cardmembers without Mosaic status must use their JetBlue Premier Card to purchase their flight to be eligible for a space-available upgrade.
-
United MileagePlus® Premier status and status with other partner programs do not qualify a traveler for space-available upgrades.
-
An upgrade applies only to the flight on which it clears and does not carry over to connecting, subsequent or rebooked flights. A voluntary flight change, including but not limited to Same-Day Switches, after an upgrade clears will forfeit the upgrade. Cleared upgrades may be revoked due to aircraft changes, a reduction in available BlueFirst seats, cancellations or other operational changes; customers who purchased a BlueFirst fare retain priority for BlueFirst seats. No points, tiles, travel credit, refund or other compensation is provided for an upgrade that does not clear or is revoked.
-
Points and tiles are earned on the fare originally purchased, and the fare rules of the original fare, including change and cancellation policies, continue to apply. Upgraded customers receive the BlueFirst seat and any onboard service offered on their flight; BlueFirst benefits provided before departure, such as dedicated check-in and an increased baggage allowance, are not included.
-
Space-available upgrades have no cash value and are non-transferable. JetBlue may modify, suspend or discontinue space-available upgrades, including eligibility, priority and clearance timing, at any time without notice. The TrueBlue Program Rules apply and, in the event of any conflict with this page, govern; see https://www.jetblue.com/trueblue/terms-and-conditions.
