Carry-On Bags
General Info
Blue Basic, Blue, Blue Extra, Blue Plus, and Mint fares
Each customer is allowed one carry-on bag and one personal item (purse, small backpack, briefcase, laptop, etc.). Carry-on bags may be stowed in the overhead bin or underneath the seat in front of you, while personal items must be placed beneath the seat in front of you. Closets for hanging garment bags are not available on our planes.
Carry-on bags are the sole responsibility of the customer and JetBlue will assume no liability for property carried on board.

Carry-on regulations
In addition to one carry-on bag and one personal item, FAA/TSA regulations allow the following items, which do not count towards the carry-on limit:
- Assistive devices
- Duty-free items in a reasonable and limited amount
- One diaper bag for lap infants
- Special items (coat, umbrella, infant car seat, etc.)
You may find more information about prohibited items by visiting TSA’s website. Keep in mind that TSA regulations and enforcement may change without notice.

Carry-on FAQ
- Please check your confirmation email to learn about your bag allowance for your trip.
- In general, the first airline on your first leg, each way, determines the bag rules as you check your bags. So be sure to look up that airline’s bag allowances and fees. This applies to carry-ons and checked bags.
- It is a good idea to check on both airlines’ baggage limits, especially if you are traveling internationally.
To check to see if you added your bag successfully to your booking, complete these steps:
- Log into Manage Trips.
- Choose your upcoming trip.
- Scroll down to Traveler. Click the dropdown.
- Choose Travelers Details.
- Click Details to see if you previously added a bag.
To add up to two checked bags on the JetBlue app, complete these steps:
- Tap your upcoming trip.
- Tap the blue Manage Trips banner to open the dropdown.
- Tap the Bags & extras link to add a bag.
Still not working? Check to be sure you have a JetBlue flight, not a partner airline flight. Keep in mind you can only check in for JetBlue flights with JetBlue.
The credit card used to pay for this bag does not need to match the credit card used to pay for the trip.
Follow these steps:- Visit Manage Trips. Be sure you have the Confirmation Code or Ticket Number ready, plus the traveler’s last name.
- Choose the upcoming trip.
- On Desktop, click Bags & extras.
- On Mobile, tap the blue Manage Trips banner to open the dropdown and click Bags & extras.
- Follow the steps to add a bag.
There are a few common reasons why checked bags are not available for purchase:
- This leg of your flight may be on another airline. You can only purchase a checked bag from JetBlue if you are booked on a JetBlue-operated flight. You may need to check in with a different airline.
- There is a bag check limit as you book the flight. Customers can purchase up to 2 bags during booking. You can only purchase a third bag (or more) at the airport.
- If you decide to switch flights from one JetBlue flight to another JetBlue flight, we refund your bag fees to your original form of payment and recollect payment for the new flight.
- If JetBlue changes you to a different flight, from one JetBlue flight to another JetBlue flight, we can reassign your “extras” purchased like bags or seats, without an increase or decrease in cost.
- If JetBlue assigns you a flight on a different airline, you will be required to pay for your bags again. You will then need to request a refund from JetBlue.
- Once bags are prepaid, we cannot remove them from your reservation.
- In order to refund the bag fees, the entire roundtrip reservation would need to be cancelled. If you cancel your reservation, keep in mind change/cancel fees may apply and there may be a fare difference when you rebook.
- Extras are non-refundable. Once they are purchased, they cannot be removed from your reservation.
- In order to return the fees, the entire reservation would need to be cancelled. If you cancel your reservation, keep in mind change/cancel fees may apply and there may be a fare difference when you rebook.
