In 2006, JetBlue launched a partnership with First Book, a nonprofit organization that provides access to new books for children in need. First Book and JetBlue have partnered with schools and local communities to donate books to children in need for our inaugural flights and diversity awareness months.
Through our First Book program, we are able to engage educators to explore diversity titles and share books that celebrate events and awareness for events such as Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, Black History Month, Women's History Month and Hispanic Heritage Month. Local education groups in selected JetBlue cities benefiting from the program have received more than 13,000 books celebrating and honoring diverse heroes and themes. To date, JetBlue has distributed 433,576 books through First Book to children who live in low-income households – many who have little, if any, access to new books and quality learning materials.
At our inaugural in Quito, Ecuador, JetBlue donated 500 new books to the Working Boys Center - the first new books they've received in eight years! Stay tuned for our new city launches this year. To learn more about First Book, visit firstbook.org
