A little background...
Situated between Martinique and St. Vincent is beautiful Saint Lucia - a relatively small island nation famous for its beautiful beaches and landscape, delicious chocolate, and friendly people. Despite its small size, St. Lucia is actually home to the Pitons, two volcanic mountains rising more than 3,000 feet from sea level and ranked as an UNESCO World Heritage site. Geographically speaking, Saint Lucia is classified as one of the Windward Islands within the Lesser Antilles - and as a result benefits from an average year-round temperature of 82 degrees. Saint Lucia enjoys daily nonstop service from both New York (JFK), and Saturday-only nonstop service from Boston.
40,000 years ago, the volcano under Sulphur Springs collapsed, creating a beautiful and unique landscape. Today, although the volcano is dormant, naturally formed mineral and mud baths are still heated by the earth's core. The water temperature usually reaches a comfortable 102 degrees, and they say that with just one mud bath here, you will leave looking 10 years younger. Sulphur Springs is named after the smell produced by volcanic gases - and although the smell can sometimes be strong, this site is well worth a visit.
The Pitons are St. Lucia's most famous landmark - and with good reason. Rising nearly 3,000 feet above sea level, these two beautiful mountains add an amazing element to the unique landscape of the island. The Pitons can be seen from just about anywhere on the western coast of St. Lucia - but, if you are brave enough, you can hike the steep slopes of the Pitons to enjoy a truly phenomenal view of the island. The mountains are located in Morne Trois Pitons National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Set your sails and cruise the coastline of St. Lucia as you watch the sunset and sip champagne. Perfect for love birds and anyone who needs to unwind, this tranquil journey is full of surprises - dolphins are known to swim alongside boats on sunset cruises. Some have seen the green flash - a phenomena only seen for an instant at sunrise and sunset - when part of the sun suddenly changes color. With a little bit of luck, maybe you'll see both. For more information or details, its best to ask your hotel concierge or resort activity coordinator
Home of the quintessential Caribbean sunset, it's no surprise that Marigot Bay is considered one of the most beautiful bays in the Caribbean. This peaceful place with sparkling waters and swaying palms is surrounded by a handful of unobtrusive bars and restaurants, and the soothing views from this piece of paradise make it the perfect spot for a romantic evening or a relaxing time out with friends or family. As the sun sets over the water, the bay becomes even more stunning, and is bathed by beautiful yellow and orange rays of sunlight.
St. Lucia Rain Forest
At just 238 square miles St. Lucia is a small island - but don't let its small size fool you! A number of micro-ecosystems are found on the island, and one of the most famous is the rain forest. A short, scenic drive from almost anywhere on the island takes you to the heart of St. Lucia's rain forest, where you can experience the unparalleled beauty for yourself. Many operators offer tours of various parts of the forest, some of which include zip lines through the forest's canopy. Be sure to pack comfortable walking shoes or sneakers that can handle some mud.
