Take a relaxing walk on soft white sand and then soak your feet in the clear, shallow blue waters of Boca Chica, the principal beach resort near Santo Domingo. A popular spot fancied by its European visitors, Boca Chica's east side has been nicknamed "Saint Tropez". At this beach you'll also find a natural coral reef, and go loco over the wide array of pizza and fast food stands, beach cottages, chaise lounges, water sports concessions, and beach tables. Less than 2 miles east and about 19 miles from the center of Santo Domingo. Royal and LoyalPicture yourself as royalty as you walk through the doors of the Alcázar de Colón, the palace built for Columbus' son, Diego, and his wife who was King Ferdinand's niece. This beautiful coral limestone structure was the center of the Spanish court for more than 60 years and the likes of Cortés, Ponce de León, and Balboa were entertained here. Be careful not to get lost as you wonder among nearly two dozen rooms decorated with amazing paintings, period tapestries and 16th century antiques.
