While you're in La Romana, make sure you try the flavorful local dishes, mainly during lunch, which is the most substantial meal of the day, thanks to the Island's Spanish influence. A couple of delicious dishes to try are La Bandera Dominicana (The Dominican Flag), a tri-color national dish which consists of rice, beans, meat, fried plantains, and maybe a vegetable salad; and Sanchocho, a Spanish-style stew made with green plantains, avocado and meat.
