Beauty and The SeaTake an exhilarating journey into the unparalleled wonder of Bermuda Dolphin Quest. If you loved Flipper, wait 'til you get to play with dolphins in a tropical blue lagoon. This is a once in a lifetime adventure. Handle with CareDiscovered by two young boys in 1905, the Crystal Caves are a silent world of magnificent crystal stalactites and stalagmites surrounding an azure lake 55 feet deep. All tours are guided and a café and gift shop are onsite. Closed Dec.-Jan. Pretty in Pink
Experience Bermuda's famous pink sand beaches at Horseshoe Bay. This lovely seaside retreat is Bermuda's most popular spot, luring beachgoers with its wide stretches of pastel pink-hued sand (the result of crushed shells, coral and calcium carbonate) and clear turquoise waters. Get there before noon to beat the crowds. Beach chairs, umbrellas, rafts and snorkel equipment are available for rental and there are changing rooms, showers, restrooms and a snack bar. 15 minutes from downtown Hamilton. Long Way to GoIf you want to swim away from the crowd, at Warwick Long Bay you'll find a quiet, half-mile stretch of rosy sand (the longest on the island) against a backdrop of scrubland and low grasses. Less than 200 feet offshore, a jagged coral island appears to float above the water. This secluded beach is perfect for morning yoga, romantic picnics or long strolls. There are no facilities, rentals or lifeguards on duty, but if you're looking for solitude and relaxation, you'll certainly find it here. St. George's FireBuilt in 1614, Fort St. Catherine in St. George's is one of Bermuda's oldest forts and most impressive structures. As the spot where Bermuda's first settlers came ashore, Fort St. Catherine is a wonderful site to learn about the island's colorful history and see replicas of the British crown jewels, guarded by a wax-figured Beefeater. The Fort also houses an interesting collection of antique guns and weapons. Trustworthy
One of Bermuda's best kept secrets, Heydon Trust Chapel is also its smallest chapel. Dating from the early 1600s, this historic chapel can be found at Heydon Trust, a bucolic, 43-acre preserve graced by rose gardens, stately Bermuda cedars and olivewood trees. Nuns perform inspirational Gregorian chants in the chapel Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays at 7:30 a.m., Wednesdays and Saturdays at 8:30 a.m. and Monday through Saturday at 3:00 p.m. Admission is free. Open daily from dawn till dusk. O' MyBermuda's "in" spot for lunch and dinner, Port O' Call has won numerous Best of Bermuda awards. The contemporary menu features fresh local fish, homemade pastas and the best Bermuda produce—all at surprisingly modest prices. Port O' Call's award-winning wine list features some 60 fabulous wines by the glass. Dine indoors or al fresco with spectacular views of Hamilton Harbor. WaterworldProudly boasting both AAA Four Diamond and Wine Spectator Awards, The Waterlot Inn has been offering delectable Bermudian fare for more than 320 years. Beamed ceilings and a nautical atmosphere provide a wonderful setting to enjoy prime and dry aged steaks, succulent cuts of lamb and veal, and fresh fish. Carnivores,—this historic restaurant guarantees the best steak in Bermuda. Your Way or the Fourway
Housed in a 17th century manor, Fourways Inn Restaurant is the premier fine dining location in Bermuda. The extensive a la carte menu features everything from local seafood to vegetarian dishes, with the daily catch brought by their own fisherman and herbs picked from the restaurant's garden. Their wine list is exhaustive—if you can't decide which way to go, an experienced team of Wine Stewards is available to assist you. For more drinks, swing by the old world "Peg Leg" bar. |
