CEO Credits Success And On-Time Performance To JFK
New York, NY, 12/21/2000 -- At a joint press conference this morning with the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey and JetBlue supporter U.S. Congressman Gregory R. Meeks, JetBlue CEO David Neeleman will announce that the airline has booked over $100 million in flown revenue this year and expects to report a profit for the fourth quarter of 2000. JetBlue reported that August, only its six full month of operation, was its first profitable month. In October, JetBlue’s on-time performance would rank number one in every market it served, if compared to the major airlines.
“With JetBlue, we’re proving that a start-up airline can be successful, popular and profitable,” said Mr. Neeleman. “It takes the right mix of a strong business plan, an experienced management team, dedicated employees, a great product, and service, service, service. And in New York, with the support of a forward-thinking Port Authority, it’s imperative to base your operations from a great airport such as JFK, New York’s most on-time airport.*”
“In our first six months, we reported an overall on-time performance of 80.25%, while the major airlines averaged 73.6%. In October, JetBlue was the number one on-time airline on every route we fly, up to 96.4%. We could only have achieved this on-time performance operating out of JFK,” added Neeleman.
“JetBlue's investment, which is expected to include tens of millions of dollars worth of terminal improvements at JFK, is a key part of the Port Authority's $10 billion Kennedy Airport redevelopment program, the largest in U.S. aviation history,” said Port Authority Director of Aviation William R. DeCota. “The successful partnership of JetBlue Airways and Kennedy Airport has given travelers more options and greatly improved service.”
“From the first passenger this past February to the millionth, JetBlue, the new kid on the block, continues to deliver excellent service and prices to its customers,” said Congressman Gregory W. Meeks (06-NY) whose district includes John F. Kennedy International Airport. “Today’s milestone is a reaffirmation of JetBlue’s product quality and successful management practices.”
