Please be advised, on the evening of Wednesday, May 4, 2016, the Northbound I-5 exit to the Sacramento International Airport (SMF) will be closed from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m. to accommodate a CalTrans construction project to lengthen the auxiliary lane and widen the exit.
Lane restrictions and a six-mile detour on NB I-5 will be in place. Customers traveling to/from SMF during the closure timeframes should plan accordingly and allow for an additional 30-35 minutes travel time to/from the airport.
The scheduled detour route is as follows:
-Continue northbound past the airport and over the Sacramento River and take Exit No. 531.
-Take Old River Road under the freeway to County Road 118, merging onto southbound I-5.
-Continue south on I-5 and take Exit No. 528 to the airport.

Customers traveling now through September 6, 2016 will likely experience longer-than-usual security lines at departure airports due to current Transportation Security Administration (TSA) capacity. To ensure you make it to your gate in time, please plan to arrive at least 2 hours before your flight, as wait times could be up to an hour or more. As always, be sure to check the status of your flight before heading to the airport.
